Kilmeena 2 -07  Killala 2-09

Kilmeena kicked off their league campaign this evening, with Killala the visitors to St Brendan’s Sports Ground.  In an entertaining game, Kilmeena put on their best performance to date and were extremely unlucky to come out the wrong side of a very tight result.

Against a physical Killala team, Kilmeena played with a great deal of cohesion and there was some excellent football on display. An incisive passing game, with strong running and a very strong work ethic from the Kilmeena players meant that this game went down to the wire. It was only the concession of two late frees which decided the game.

The training appears to be paying off as Kilmeena kept up a high tempo throughout. Every player from 1 to 15 worked extremely hard for the cause and it was also very encouraging to see the large number on the sidelines, ready to do their bit. A strong panel is definitely required in order to be successful this year.

Though not the required result, Kilmeena will benefit from this tough encounter. If the lad’s can repeat this performance, then they will definitely receive more favourable results.

Again, it is looking very positive for Kilmeena GAA and a successful 2013 campaign.
