Kilmeena finally secured their first league points of the season with a comprehensive win over Moy Davitts on Saturday evening in St Brendan’s Sports Park.

Unlike previous games where Kilmeena conceded decisive scores early in the game, today the team started with intent, playing a very fast passing game and getting some excellent scores on the board from the outset.  It was very obvious that the team is clicking into gear, the training is paying off, the team look very fit and there was an obvious confidence running through the players. Kilmeena passed the ball better, made better decisions, ran harder and out-fought their opponents throughout the game. Some well taken points and two goals from Darragh Keaveney gave Kilmeena a 2-08 to 0-04 lead going in at half-time.  They continued in the same vein in the second half and, despite some ridiculous foul play and off the ball blows from the frustrated Davitts players, some well taken points coupled with tenacious defending left Kilmeena clear winners, 2-13 to 0-06.

The players were delighted at the final whistle to have secured the win their performances deserved and as this page has consistently stated, it will be the first win of many. Again, it was heartening to see a strong panel in attendance, giving the manager options. The hard work is starting to pay off but it doesn’t stop with one win, this team will look to continue their winning ways but face a tough task in their next outing away to Castlebar Mitchells.
