Kilmeena welcomed Naomh Padraig GAA club from County Warwickshire, Leicester, England, to St Brendans Park on Saturday the 9th of November, to play a friendly challenge match to mark the occasion of their visit to the club.

Kilmeena played with the wind in the first half and lead at half time by a few points thanks to some great defending by veteran Declan Ryan at the back, and brilliant attacking play by the birthday boy, Darragh Keaveney, up front. The second half was a much closer affair with Kilmeena pushing on in the last quarter, winning comfortably in the end. Two lovely points from the boot of the ever eager Sean Barrett helped to secure the victory. Two fantastic saves from point blank range by the outstanding goalkeeping skills of Danny Fadian prevented the visitors from gaining a foothold on the game. Both teams and supporters celebrated with light refreshments in the clubhouse following the match, thanks in no small way to the female club members working seamlessly to deliver culinary excellence for all to relish. All involved enjoyed the social aspect of the day. The Leicester boys are looking forward to the next two nights on the town in Westport prior to their return to the UK early next week.
