Kilmeena was defeated by the narrowest of margins by Wesport, in the U16 League in Westport on Tuesday evening last. The conditions were slippy and the lads struggled with keeping possession at times in the first half. Westport dominated and built up an eight point lead at one stage. The teams went in at half time with Westport leading by six points.
The management team rallied the group and they came out strongly in the second half. We had numerous opportunities but, unfortunately, the lads simply could not take the chances. For the final 20 minutes, Kilmeena kicked 13 wides and hit the post on two occasions. It ended up in a one point difference in front of a huge crowd in Westport.
This meant that the three teams (Westport, Kilmeena and Erris St Pats finish the league on 8 points).
Following a draw on Wednesday night by the county board, Erris St Pats go through to the final and Kilmeena and Westport must do it all again next Tuesday in Westport at 6.30pm. This is a huge opportunity for the Kilmeena lads to put the record straight. We hope there is another large turnout of supporters to cheer them on.
