The schools league finals for the primary schools of Kilmeena/Fahy parishes took place at Kilmeena G.A.A. grounds on Sunday the 1st December 2013. In all over 100 children between boys  and girls took, part in this competition,The competition was run, primarily to honour the memory of Declan Gibbons, William Quinn and the Kelly Family. Kilmeena G.A.A club sponsored the medals and also the trophies won by the boys and girls in the skills competitions,

Today, Sunday 1st December was the culmination of the past four Sundays for these boys and girls, in which they competed in tough and competitive rounds of this competition.

The Final winners were as follows.

 

(1) Declan Gibbons memorial     Jack Carney. Cup presented by Austin Gibbons

(2) William Quinn Memorial        Sean Moore. Cup presented by William and Mary Quinn.

(3) Plaque sponsored by club    John Keane. Cup presented by Peter Carney

 

Kilmeena girls, not giving an inch to their male counterparts were very much involved in this competition and added greatly to the overall enjoyment of this competition. Kilmeena girls, their first year in existence were out to show that they are no flash in the pan and that they are here for the long haul, competed in each game as if their lives depended on the results.

The winning team of the girls competition was captained  by Aoife Lavelle.

The Kelly cup was presented to Aoife by Mr Sean Grady nephew of the Kelly Family and to whom the club are grateful..

This  was a terrific day for Kilmeena G.A.A. and a day when we, the ordinary members showed that we can come together and honour the memory of the deceased in our community who have given something to the G.A.A.

Skills tests were run in conjunction with this competition and the results were as follows.

 

Boys, Under 9    Evan O Donnell

Boys  Under 11  Mickey Hastings.

Boys  Under 13 John Mc Glynn.

 

Skills test for girls.

Secondary Schools         Orla Grealis.

5th/6th class                    Katie Hogan.

3rd/4th class                    Ciara Joyce.

 

The Chairman of Kilmeena G.A.A. club Willie Keaveney thanked the teachers from the schools of the parish, all the parents who turned out to support the teams and the children, all the team managers and everyone else who helped make the event happen.

This was a terrific occasion in the life of our club, and everyone who took part, in any way is to be highly commended.

Once again, another great day for our club.
