Kilmeena Diaspora Deeply Involved in the GAA Abroad

From Our Man in Qatar, Jonathan Madden, Brings us This Report

The Qatar Gaa Senior team travelled to Abu Dhabi for the Middle East
Championship aiming to finish the season with a League and
Championship double. There was good representation from Mayo on the
Qatar team with Johnny Madden (Kilmeena) at center back,Thomas
Donoghue (Bellumet) lining out at corner back and Barry Biggins
(Shrule/Glencorrib) as part of the management team.
Qatar started the day with a 1-10 to 2-4 defeat of the Arabian Celts
from Bahrain and then faced their oldest and toughest rivals the Dubai
Celts in the semi final. In what is always a hard fought affair Qatar
managed to up their intensity in the second half to build on a 1-4 to
0-4 halftime lead to win the game by 2-9 to 0-8, setting up a final
with Championships hosts Abu Dhabi na Fianna.
The final was an extremely close affair with Abu Dhabi na Fianna
imposing their physicality on proceedings and keeping the Qatar full
forward line at bay. However with only seconds remaining Marcus
McNally managed to score a goal that put Qatar in the lead for the
first time. This was a lead which we duly held onto winning by a
scoreline of 1-08 to 0-10. Pat Spillane T.V pundit and Kerry great was
on hand to present the winners with the trophy and medals.

Also i have photos of Kieran Sheridan who is lining out for Oman.
Keiran is just after playing his first competitive game in over two year
after having serious surgery on his knee an injury he sustained
playing for Kilmeena. (Good to see him playing again and hopefully he
will be wearing a Kilmeena jersey very soon)

Its sad not to be playing with the black and white but both myself and
Kieran hope to tog out again for kilmeena in the near future. also its
great to see the pictures from the games at home really keeps people
who are miles away
very much in touch.keep them coming..

Regards

Johnny Madden
