Under 8

The rain stayed away as Kilmeena’s U8s hosted Tourmakeady for their first match of the season on a murky Saturday morning at St. Brendan's. As Tourmakeady could only field seven players, it meant they played two games against our lads, thus ensuring that all of the Kilmeena players got to play a full game. Special credit must be given to the younger players in the squad, all of whom acquitted themselves magnificently on their very first outing for the club. Next up: Islandeady at Kilmeena pitch next Saturday at 11am!

The pleasant Spring sunshine added to the palpable excitement this evening in St Brendan’s Park, when it was announced that each member of the recently registered U8 and U6's boys within the Club was to receive a personally signed football from Mayo Minor footballer, Keith Joyce. A significant gesture from the Club in encouraging all youngsters to become actively involved in developing a healthy lifestyle through sport.

Islandeady travelled to Kilmeena for this season’s under-8 opener on a glorious Saturday morning.

We split into two teams, Team 1 mostly consisted of the older players and Team 2 mostly of the younger lads.

Team 1: Kilmeena put away their early chances before Islandeady settled into the game and drew level before half time.

In the second half Islandeady started the stronger and took most chances that came their way but due to some heroic defending

by the home team, the deficit might have been greater. Kilmeena came back into the game and scored a few chances of their own,

despite resolute defensive work by the visitors. Both opposing teams were happy with their days work at the final whistle.

Team 2: It was a big day for these lads, for most, it was their first time to pull on the Jersey and line out for Kilmeena. Everybody quickly got into the game and there was great improvement to be seen in skill levels.

We had an even match up up with Islandeady throughout the game and amazingly it ended in a draw !

All in all, these hotly-contested games were a fantastic start to the season and a great indicator of things to come from the young guns.

Thanks to parents for great positive support throughout !

Kilmeena U8's and U10's had their first outing of the season in Achill today. Great display of skills and teamwork by all the lads. Many thanks to the coaches, parent and supporters for making the trip to Achill. A special thanks to Achill GAA club for providing the refreshments in the clubhouse following the games.
