Minors

Kilmeena minors did battle against our neighbours Burrishoole in Newport tonight 19th of may. This was a semi final of division 3 and an opportunity to play Bonniconlon  in the final.

The first half was a close affair and both teams had opportunities to pull away. But the first half finished  with Kilmeena  a point  ahead 2   -  05 to 2   -   04.

The second half started well for Kilmeena and went a couple of points up. Then all of a sudden Burrishoole  bagged 2 fast goals and went 5 points up. Just then Kilmeena hit a purple patch and clawed it back to a single point. At this point it looked like the day could be ours. But it was not to be, as Burrishoole  netted 3 further goals and put the game beyond Kilmeena boys.

As you can imagine our lads were extremely disappointed as they had played their hearts out and left it all out on the field. There is no doubt there were so many positives in this performance that it has whet the appetite for future  competition.

On behalf  of the management  and players we would like to thank the supporters that came in great numbers. We hope you enjoyed the game.

Kilmeena minors  played Carras in a thrilling encounter at Ballyheane tonight Monday 16th of may.  The Victor would go through to play Burrishoole next Thursday in the league semi final. There was great crowd gathering as the players came out on to the field.  The game started with Kilmeena playing with the aid of a slight breeze. Within a minute Carras had the ball in the net and tagged on two points soon after. Worst followed when Center back Kevin Ryder got injured and had to retire. The boys really dug deep and got themselves  back in the game scoring a few well worked points. By half time Kilmeena lead 0   -  09 to 1   -   04. All at the game knew the game was in the balance and the team that took the initiative in the second half would prevail.

The second half started  as expected and was a tough dodged first 10 mins, both teams had chances. Carras got the game back to level and looked like they would drive for home. Just then our lads hit a purple patch and hit some excellent  scores. This was just a wonderful all team effort with  fantastic defending, superb midfield play and clever attacking play. The crowd that were there were treated to a wonderfully spirited display by our lads. Thank you for your support, the lads appreciate it.

SEE YOU ALL IN NEWPORT

Kilmeena minors played Bonniconlon in Ballyheane this evening in a three way play off. It was a good display by Kilmeena but we were out-fought in the second half. It was a beautiful evening for a game of football and the Bonniconlon fans took full advantage of the evening and came out in great numbers. Sadly we were well beaten in that department also, as the few supporters we had were well outnumbered. A big thank you to the supporters that travelled.
We will have one final crack at getting into the final against Carras. Please come out and support our boys.

Kilmeena minors  travelled  to Ballindine on the 26th of April  for the last game of the league. Kilmeena came up against a Davitts team that were well drilled and were hungry for the game. The Kilmeena lads stayed with Davitts  in the first half by scoring  2 goals. Although  Kilmeena  had the aid of the breeze  in the first half  trailed by a point. 2.02 to 0.09.
Kilmeena  started the second  half well and exchanged scores and created chances. But this was Davitts day and scored some fine scores to end up deserved winners.
It does look like we have topped our group and have an opportunity to play a home semi final next Tuesday  evening. We will have to preform better than we did this evening but these lads have shown that they can. Come out and support your team.

Kilmeena minors had a great win against Ardmoy Mchales in Moygownagh this evening.  The first half was well contested and Kilmeena lead by 2 points after playing with a strong wind. Halftime score; 1  -  07 to 1  -  05. The poor ground conditions made scoring difficult.
Kilmeena started well in the second half and began to control the game. The Kilmeena lads started working well for one another and their superior fitness levels shone through. Our passing improved and we took our chances and our defence limited the opposition to 3 point.
Next game at home next Tuesday 19th April against Mayo Geals.

Kilmeena minors had a great win away to Bonniconlon on Tuesdays the 5th of April.
The first half was played in perfect conditions and the Kilmeena lads settled well. There were some great scores and Kilmeena led at half time 8 points to 4 points. Just as half time came so did the wind and rain. Kilmeena had an uphill battle in the second half. Within 5 minutes Bonniconlon were within a point.  But then second half sub Jack Carney buried a cracker. That was the score that kept us ahead. This was a great team performance and all players contributed to a winning performance. Kilmeena 1   -   09     Bonniconlon 0   -   1 0.
Our next game is next Tuesday against Ballaghaderreen. Venue; St Brendan's Park Kilmeena. Time; 7pm.
