With a place at stake in a County Final, Kilmeena put in a workman like performance to overcome a determined Hollymount/Carramore side at home on Tuesday evening last. Kilmeena playing against a strong breeze settled well with 2 early points but Hollymount/Carramore levelled by 10minutes. Both teams traded points but a Kian Moore goal on 15minutes put the home side in control. Kilmeena now playing free flowing football hit 5 points without reply, but Hollymount/Carramore hit back with 3 quick fire points in a 2 minute spell just before the break to leave a half time score of Kilmeena 1-09 Hollymount/Carramore 0-06.
The second half began with both teams trading a brace of points and a converted Hollymount/Carramore penalty on 10 minutes, left 2 points between the teams. With Hollymount/Carramore growing more and more in confidence it was now game on. Kilmeena dug deep and with impressive defending and clever use of possession around the middle they hit 4 points without reply. With the game entering the final quarter and Hollymount/Carramore throwing everything at the home side Kilmeena freshened up the attack with introduction of Sean Prenty and Cillian O’Grady. This paid immediate dividends with 2 Sean Prenty goals within a 3 minute spell to end the game as a contest. Hollymount/Carramore hit back with a consolation goal but the home side tagged on further points to leave a final score of Kilmeena 3 - 19 to Hollymount/Carramore 2 - 08. This was an all round solid performance by Kilmeena who can now look forward to a County Final next week against Ardnaree. Well done to a great bunch of young men.

Aughamore travelled to St Brendans Park this Tuesday evening to take on our lads in the U16 League. The weather this evening was more suited to a winters day but both teams brought some sparkle to St Brendans.
Before the game started there was a minutes silence for Tommy Casey RIP. Tommy was a great club man and will be greatly missed by the club and the community.
The ball was thrown in and with Aughamore playing with the aid of a strong breeze dominated the first half. Both teams found it difficult to control the ball as it was more akin to a bar of soap. Aughamore lead at half 0 - 6 to 0 - 2. The second half was far more entertaining with both teams playing open football and scoring coming easier. There was some great scores and long range points. Kilmeena drew level on two occasions in the second half but could not get their noses in front.
Eventually Kilmeena ran out of time and lost by the narrowest of margins.
Great credit must go to both teams for serving up a very entertaining game and all of us in the stand enjoyed your efforts.
Kilmeena abu.

Kilmeena U-16s recorded an impressive home win over Ardnaree in a top of the table clash on Sunday evening last on a perfect sunny evening for football. Both teams played flowing football from the start and the home side settled with an early point, but on a mix up in the home defence let Ardnaree in for a goal after 5 mins. Both teams traded points to leave it 1 - 03 to 0 - 3 midway in the first half. Kilmeena found the net on 18mins after a flowing move, but Ardnaree hit back with 3 points before the break to lead 1 - 06 to 1 - 03.
The second half began with more intensity and with the home side now dominating at midfield, they ran at Ardnaree from all areas scoring 2-04 without reply to lead by 7 mid way through 2nd half. Just as the game seemed to be swinging in favour of the home side, Ardnaree hit back with 1 - 01 to leave 3 between them entering the last 10mins. Kilmeena responded with 3 points but a converted Ardanree penalty on 27mins set up a frantic finish. A Kilmeena point on 29mins put 4 between them to leave a final score of 3 - 12 to 3 - 08.
This result completed a great week for Kilmeena U16s as on Thursday evening last they recorded an impressive away win over Swinford with a final score of Swinford 2 - 04, Kilmeena 3 - 15. With the league now complete and Kilmeena sitting proudly on top of the table (7wins out of 8) they can now look forward to a home semi final.
Well done to all involved on a great season so far.
