The U16 ladies recorded a great win over their neighbours Westport in a highly entertaining league game on Monday evening in St Brendan’s park.  Kilmeena were against the wind and made a solid start but Westport went in 2 – 06 to 1 – 04 ahead at half time.  The second half was a real nail biting encounter with Kilmeena going 2- 10 to 2 – 9 ahead with two minutes remaining. With the game looking like it could go either way Westport scored a goal to go one point ahead but a goal in the last minute by Aoife Lavelle ensured a deserved victory for Kilmeena.

Team captain Sophie Flynn was outstanding along with Katie Hogan at midfield. Goal keepers Aoife Lavelle and Laura Kelly were very impressive with some great saves. The defence was excellent with Dearbhla Grealis, Ava Ryder and Lilly Brady very strong. Nina Mathestein, Laura Moore and Sarah Mulchrone made some great clearances. The forwards created many chances and took some fine scores. Cliodhna O Connell, Aoife Roche, Jamie Geraghty, Lisa Rose and Alishia McDonnell gave solid performances. Shannon Burke was outstanding covering back and got some great scores on the evening.

Excellent displays by U14’s girls Laura Kelly, Ciara Joyce and Sarah McDonald in their first game for the U16 team this year.

It was a wonderful display from the Kilmeena ladies who secured a great win in the end. This was an evening to remember for the U16 ladies.

The Kilmeena girls held their nerve with good ball retention and passing which allowed them to take an early lead of which they held throughout the game.

In the last two quarters against the wind kilmeena needed to defend strongly and they did managing in getting in some vital blocks and dispossessions.

There were notable performances on the evening by Abi McGreal, Anna Moran, Eve Flynn, Aine Regan, Holly Barrett, Emma Murray & Grace Gibbons.

The captain for this outing was Holly Barrett who has returned from injury, aided by a strong wind the home side got off to a good start in the opening two quarters, however the kilmeena girls adjusted well to the conditions in getting good scores and strong defending of which made it difficult at times for the opposition.

Goals win games as its often said and this evening was no different with the home side netting a match winning goal in the third quarter, which proved to be the difference between to two teams in the end, well done Louisburgh and thank you for a sporting game.

The under 14 girls travelled to The Neale on Monday 6th June to play the Neale.

The following is a list of the Kilmeena girls that took part – Captained on the night by Jessica O'Donnell, Shannon Bourke, Ciara Joyce, Laura Kelly, Emma Murray, Kelly Murray, Aoife Gibbons, Molloy Moore, Ciara Gill, Megan Mulchrone, Keeley Hastings, Sarah McDonald & Grace McNally.

Kilmeena created most of their scoring chances in the first half. The second half saw a more evenly matched game with the girls from the Neale presenting stiffer competition. Great credit is due to the Neale goal keep-keeper who pulled off some great saves during the second half.
