A 125 TREE PLANTING CEREMONY will take place in the Sports Park on this Tuesday 15th April at 7 p. m. Club members are invited to attend.
KILMEENA GAA CLUB -125 CELEBRATIONS
Plans are well advanced for A SOCIAL AND GET TOGETHER for the older members of the Club and their families, as part of the celebrations of its 125th Anniversary. Invites have gone out to the older generation at home and abroad to attend on Sunday, 4th May. It is hoped to start off proceedings at 5 p.m. in the Sports Park where introductions and presentations will take place. All assembled will then march behind the 125 Banner the short distance to the Community Centre. Refreshment will be served and invited guests can relax with their colleagues and friends from former years. Every effort is being made by the Club to make this a very special occasion. If the weather is not suitable the whole event will take place in the Community Centre.
Kilmeena Under 16's are now top of the league following a comprehensive victory over their main Challengers Erris St Pats. They have now won all their league games and are in a very strong position to capture the league title.
Kilmeena struggled in the first half to find their usual rhythm and led by 5 points at half time after having the assistance of a strong wind. After regrouping at half time, Kilmeena settled well and showed the skill that is in abundance in this team. We are delighted to welcome Aidan Walsh back to the squad. Kilmeena have no game next Tuesday and will play Westport in the next round. This date has yet to be confirmed. Well done lads. We hope we will have an exciting Summer ahead with the championship.

West Mayo Kelly Cup – Group 2, Sunday 6 April. Venue; St Brendan’s Sports Park.
The Kilmeena Senior team got their competitive 2014 season underway against Castlebar Mitchells in this first round Kelly Cup fixture.
Played on a heavy St Brendan’s pitch in wet and very windy conditions, both teams competed very well despite the elements. Castlebar Mitchells got the early scores but the Kilmeena team were playing very well. Two well taken goals from Thomás Gill meant that the teams went in level at half-time, 2-01 to Mitchells 1-04.
The heavy pitch began to take its toll in the second half and the strong blustery winds made kicking from distance very difficult. Kilmeena racked up a number of wides in the second half and Castlebar added to their goal tally to finish the game, 2-02 to 3-07, winners.
It may be a defeat in their first game but the Kilmeena team performed very well in poor conditions. They looked physically fit and played direct, dynamic football and contested strongly for every ball, especially in the first half. A number of younger players were introduced as second half subs and will benefit from the experience. As will all the team, and management, and as the players get more game time and their match fitness improves, we will definitely see more victories than defeats in 2014.
