The U16 ladies recorded a great win over their neighbours Westport in a highly entertaining league game on Monday evening in St Brendan’s park. Kilmeena were against the wind and made a solid start but Westport went in 2 – 06 to 1 – 04 ahead at half time. The second half was a real nail biting encounter with Kilmeena going 2- 10 to 2 – 9 ahead with two minutes remaining. With the game looking like it could go either way Westport scored a goal to go one point ahead but a goal in the last minute by Aoife Lavelle ensured a deserved victory for Kilmeena.
Team captain Sophie Flynn was outstanding along with Katie Hogan at midfield. Goal keepers Aoife Lavelle and Laura Kelly were very impressive with some great saves. The defence was excellent with Dearbhla Grealis, Ava Ryder and Lilly Brady very strong. Nina Mathestein, Laura Moore and Sarah Mulchrone made some great clearances. The forwards created many chances and took some fine scores. Cliodhna O Connell, Aoife Roche, Jamie Geraghty, Lisa Rose and Alishia McDonnell gave solid performances. Shannon Burke was outstanding covering back and got some great scores on the evening.
Excellent displays by U14’s girls Laura Kelly, Ciara Joyce and Sarah McDonald in their first game for the U16 team this year.

Kilmeena Under 12 Boys.
Match Report by Ollie Mulchrone.
Game 1 Kilmeena 4-08 Claremorris 4-03
Kilmeena U-12 boys played their second game of the summer league at home to Claremorris on Saturday evening the 25thof June. Claremorris travelled with a large panel of players which facilitated two 13 a-side games being played. The Captain for Kilmeena in game 1 was the reliable Jack Mulchrone who hasn’t missed a single game or training session since the start of the year. Kilmeena played against a strong breeze in the first quarter and did very well to score two points while their defence kept Claremorris scoreless. Kilmeena continued their good form in the second quarter leaving the half time score of 1-05 to 0-00. To Claremorris’s credit they came out after half time and with the aid of the breeze won the third quarter outscoring Kilmeena by 2-01 to 1-01. Had it not been for the heroic saves by Evan O Donnell in goal the story could had read very differently. Evan’s accurate kick outs coupled with constant talking to the backs ensured the defence stood solid. All in all this was a great performance from each and every one of the Kilmeena lads. However, special mention must be made for Colin Hastings, Ciaran Kilcoyne and Liam Moore. Colin started the game by getting Kilmeena’s first score and from there he put in a Colm Boyle like performance from one end of the pitch to the other. His spectacular full stretch blockdown in the 3rd quarter resulted in kilmeena getting a crucial goal. Ciaran Kilcoyne was in flying form up front scoring 1 -05 and would have had a higher tally only for the excellent Claremorris goal keeper. Liam Moore’s ability to read a game and turn over possession is a joy to watch. Again, in this game Liam turned over possession twice as many times as any other player on the field. During the final quarter both team scored 2-02 leaving the final score reading Kilmeena 4-08 to Claremorris 4-03.
Kilmeena’s scores came from Ciaran Kilcoyne (G & 5), Conor Kelly (G), Colin Hastings (1), Finley Gibbons (G, G), Jack Mulchrone (1), Liam Moore (1).
The Kilmeena panel were Evan O Donnell, Adam O Grady, Gavin Mulchrone, Jack Mulchrone, Liam Moore, Rian Kilcoyne, Finley Gibbons, Darragh Slattery, Daniel Kelly, Conor Kelly, Colin Hastings, Ciaran Kilcoyne, Donal Hastings, Conor Kelly, Conor Feehan and Joseph O Malley.
Well done to Claremorris for a good competitive game and thanks to all who came to support the Kilmeena team.
In in the second game, Kilmeena and Claremorris played out a thrilling game with chances coming thick and fast. Both teams created chances and it was a very close game until the third quarter when Claremorris found the back of the net on 4 occasions. This gave Claremorris a significant cushion and, despite great effort, Kilmeena were unable to claw their way back into the game. It finished on a scoreline of 6-09 to 2-07 in favour of the visitors.
All the Kilmeena players again put in a fantastic effort. Conor Feehan and Joseph O'Malley started well but then had to depart to bolster numbers for the other Kilmeena Under 12 game, which was played simultaneously. There were notable standout performances from Sean Gallagher and Peadar O'Toole, who were strong at the back and in midfield respectively. Other strong performers on the day were Jack and Stephen O'Grady, Matthew Hogan, Dylan Staunton and Cormac Feehan, who made a great impact from the bench. This game also saw Charlie Hughes make his comeback from a broken arm injury. Well done to all the boys for putting in an outstanding effort.
Kilmeena team; Jason Monaghan, Sean Gallagher, Keelan Corcoran, Lorcan Coady, Joseph O'Malley, Conor Feehan, Peadar O'Toole, Lucas Kennedy, Dylan Staunton, Matthew Hogan, Cian O'Brien, Jack O'Grady, Stephen O'Grady, Charlie Hughes, Brian Mulchrone, Cormac Feehan.
Kilmeena 3 - 3 Louisburgh 4 - 2
Kilmeena U12 Girls travelled to Louisburgh this evening to play their Division 3 League game.
The captain for this outing was Holly Barrett who has returned from injury, aided by a strong wind the home side got off to a good start in the opening two quarters, however the kilmeena girls adjusted well to the conditions in getting good scores and strong defending of which made it difficult at times for the opposition.
Goals win games as its often said and this evening was no different with the home side netting a match winning goal in the third quarter, which proved to be the difference between to two teams in the end, well done Louisburgh and thank you for a sporting game.
Thank you to all the players who were available on the evening and the parents who car polled at short notice, Grace Gibbons, Aimee Ingham, Sarah Gillespie, Hattie Cox, lsobele Sammon, Holly Barrett, Aine Regan, Evie Flynn,Aibhilin O'Flynn, Anna Moran, Grace McNally, Ciara Walsh & Abbi McGreal.
