Kilmeena lost out to a more experienced Castlebar Mitchels side in the top of the table clash in Castlebar today.
Kilmeena played well and were very competitive in a keenly contested affair. They worked hard with some strong off the ball running and a good passing game. Each team enjoyed good spells in the first half and the game remained tight. Kilmeena went in trailing at the break, 0-08 to 0-07, as the teams exchanged scores.
The second half was to prove a different affair as a strong start from Mitchels saw them stretch their lead. A lead that Kilmeena were unable to claw back. The team stuck to their task but it was to prove futile. The strength of each panel was evident also as Kilmeena emptied the bench as injuries and fatigue impacted on the players.
A second defeat for Kilmeena in the league but, especially in the first half, a good performance from the players. No humiliation in this defeat to a strong, experienced Mitchels side.
Result;
Castlebar Mitchels 2-14 Kilmeena 1-08
