Kilmeena Minor Ladies Record Historic Win
History was made by Kilmeena Minor Ladies as the newly formed team lined out for their first ever home match at a windy St Brendan’s Park and recorded a convincing win against a determined team from The Neale.
Captain Lisa Smith won the toss and elected to play with the wind. A bright start by Kilmeena resulted in a number of near misses following good work from Rachel Keane and Becka Walsh before Nicole McGuire recorded the Minor Ladies first home point. This was quickly followed by scores from Lily Brady, Sarah Hogan, Jaimee Geraghty, Katie Hogan and Lisa Smith which saw the team move into a clear lead before Katie Hogan scored 2 excellent goals to leave the score at 2-10 to 0-3 at half time.
The Neale came out strongly at the start of the second half and despite solid defending from half backs Sarah Mulchrone and Sophie Flynn, scored some good points following excellent play to narrow the gap. The introduction of Muireann Cawley and Dearbhla Grealis added a new impetus to the forward line and Player of the Match, Katie Hogan, replied with an excellent point before Sarah Hogan took possession in midfield and with a fine solo run scored an excellent goal. The Neale fought back and recorded some fine points and would have hit the back of the net but for some good saves from Kilmeena keeper, Orla Grealis and excellent defending from Roisin Hogan and Lucy O’Malley.
Points by Roisin Smyth and Katie Hogan extended Kilmeena's lead before Sarah Hogan doubled her goal tally with another fine solo run and excellent shot into the top corner of the net.
The Neale remained determined to the end and their efforts were rewarded with a late goal.

The salubrious surroundings of The Helm Bar and Restaurant provided the venue for the distributions of prizes to the winners in the recently held Kilmeena GAA Lotto draw.
Following on from the night of the draw held in the Clew Bay Hotel, where, to a capacity crowd, the roll of the barrel, packed with last minute ticket purchases, spewed out the eagerly awaited names of those favoured by the gods of luck.
The presentation of prizes to the winners in The Helm Bar, although a more subdued affair than the previous night, nonetheless, well-wishers were on hand to lend their support, as each winner received their lotto cheques from various member of the Kilmeena GAA Club. We wish them well on their spending spree!
