Under 12

Kilmeena U-12 boys played their fourth and final round of the league away to Kiltimagh on Monday evening the 30th of May. Kilmeena travelled with a panel of 25 players. The captain of the Kilmeena team for this encounter was Evan O Donnell. Evan put in a sterling performance at corner forward and was top scorer with a goal and point from play.
Kilmeena got off to a great start leading by 0  -  04 to 0  -  00 at the end of the first quarter. Conal Gill registered the first score of the game followed by points from Odhran Tieran, Evan O Donnell and the attacking halfback Jack Mulchrone. Kiltimagh came back into the game in the second quarter outscoring Kilmeena by 1  -  02 to 0  -  02Finley Gibbons and Conal Gibbons scoring the two points for Kilmeena. Half time score was 0  -  06 to 1  -  01 in favour of the Kilmeena lads.
The third quarter was always going to be critical and Kilmeena increased the intensity outscoring Kiltimagh by 1  -  04 to 0  -  03. The points coming this time from Colin Hastings, Ciaran Kilcoyne, Conal Gill and Jack O Grady while Evan O Donnell scored Kilmeena’s only goal where he pounced on an opportunity during a goal mouth scramble to put the ball into the back of the net. During the final quarter Ciaran Kilcoyne finished off the game scoring two points to leave the final score line of  1  -  12 to

1  - 07 in favour of Kilmeena.
Harry Sherdian is worthy of special mention in goal where his long and accurate kicks were crucial to Kilmeena wining the majority of possession from their own kick outs.  The statistics for the game show that the top defenders were Gavin Mulchrone, Adam O Grady, Liam Moore and Rian Kilcoyne between them they had a massive number of 18 turnovers of possession which prevented definite scores and provided quality ball to the attacking forwards. Brian Durkan put in a mighty shift at midfield alongside Finley Gibbons. All in all this was a great performance by the entire panel of 25 players who all got game time this evening. Those lads were, Evan O Donnell Capt., Brian Durkan, Conor Feehan, Cormac Feehan, Conal Gill, Conor Gibbons, Finley Gibbons, Colin Hastings, Donal Hastings, Matthew Hogan, Daniel Kelly, Ciarán Kilcoyne, Rían Kilcoyne, Liam Moore, Brian Mulchrone, Gavin Mulchrone, Jack Mulchrone, Louis O Donnell, Jack O Grady, Stephen O Grady, Adam O Grady, Odhran Tieran, Harry Sherdian, Keelan Corcoran, Peadar O Toole.

Kilmeena U-12 boys played their third game of the league at home to Moy Davitts on Monday evening the 23rd of May. Moy Davitts travelled with a panel of 22 players which allowed for two teams to be selected. The first game was played with 13 aside on the main pitch while the second game was played in the adjoining training pitch. However, Moy Davitts hit their purple patch in the second quarter and scored 2  -  02 to 0  -  01 leaving the half time score of 1  -  03 to 3  -  02 in favour of the visitors. The Kilmeena boys had lots of possession in the third quarter but failed to convert their dominance into scores on the board. They did manage to score 1  -  03 to 2  -  01 but this left them with too much to do in the final quarter. At full time the score line read Kilmeena 2  -  07 to Moy Davitts 6  -  04. Liam Moore was outstanding in defence with twice as many turnover of possession (14) than anyone else on the field.

Game 2          Kilmeena 6-17                   Moy Davitts 2-04

Game 2 got off to a blistering start for Kilmeena where they scored 3  -  09 to 0  -  00 in the first half. It was the tight marking and great support play by the Kilmeena lads that kept Moy Davitts scoreless in the first half.  Moy Davitts improved their game in the second half and registered 2  -  04 to Kilmeena’s 3  -  08. The score line at the end of game 2 read Kilmeena 6  -  17 to Moy Davitts 2  -  04.

Kilmeena     0   -   11        4   -   11     Aughamore

Game 2
This game got off to a slow start for the Kilmeena lads where Aughamore outscored them by 4 points to 1 in the first quarter and 2-01 to 1-03 in the second quarter. Half time score was 1-04 to 2-05 in favour of Aughamore. Tactical switches at midfield with tight marking by the energetic Colin Hastings and influential Brian Durkan brought Kilmeena right back into the game where they held the majority of possession in the 3rd quarter. However, a combination of excellent defence by Aughamore and a run of bad luck for Kilmeena prevented any score difference with 2 points apiece. The momentum that the Kilmeena lads build up in the third quarter continued in the final quarter where Kilmeena outscored Aughamore by 2-04 to 1-01 leaving the final score line of 3-10 to 3-08 in favour of Kilmeena.
Darragh Slattery registered Kilmeena’s first score. Harry Sherdian pulled off some brilliant saves (again) while Adam O Grady and Gavin Mulchrone held solid in defence. Rian Kilcoyne prevented definite scores from crucial blocks and turnovers. Daniel Kelly was unselfish upfront with key assists for scores from Ciaran Kilcoyne (G) Conal Gill (G &1) Liam Moore (2), Darragh Slattery (3), Jack Mulchrone (2), Rian Kilcoyne (1), Evan O Donnell (1) and Lorcan Coady (G).
Well done to Aughamore for a good sporting game and thanks to those who travelled to support these great young fellas from Kilmeena. Also, special thanks to Cian O Brien for his assistance with the stats from the game.

Kilmeena U-12 boys played their first game of 2016 at home to Balla on Monday evening the 9th May. This was the first round of the U-12 league. Balla travelled with a panel of 20 players while Kilmeena had 33 togged out for this encounter. Kilmeena were captained by Lorcan Coady who kept control of defence. Kilmeena played 26 different players with rolling substitutions over the 4 quarters. The weather conditions were good this evening for underage football with a gentle warm breeze blowing down the fields. The Kilmeena boys put in a sterling performance where the defence resisted constant pressure from the Balla attack with notable tight marking from Jack & Gavin Mulchrone, Lorcan Coady & Rian Kilcoyne. Harry Sherdian pulled off some magnificent saves to keep Kilmeena in the match at critical times. The midfield positions were highly contested with Balla having the height advantage. However, this didn’t deter the Kilmeena lads who held their own in the critical area of the field. Finley Gibbons did all that was asked of him and was worthy contender for man of the match. He recorded Kilmeena’s first score of the evening. Upfront there was a constant treat from the Kilmeena sharpshooters with some well taken points from Liam Moore, Conal Gill, Colin Hastings and super sub Conor Feehan. However it was the goals scored by Conal Gill (2), Daniel Kelly (2) Colin Hastings and Ciaran Kilcoyne that made the real difference. This evening saw Jack Jennings wear the Kilmeena Jersey for the first time. He didn’t let the occasion get to him and he put in a top class performance.

Well done to Balla for a good sporting game.

Kilmeena were away to Louisburgh for this their final Under 12 Group C game of 2015. The game itself was a ‘one-sided’ affair; with Kilmeena pretty much dominating from start to finish.
A strong wind, blowing diagonally throughout the match made for a somewhat scrappy contest. Kilmeena got on the scoreboard first, with the opening point coming from Daniel O’Malley (Captain). Ben Lennon added another to make it 2 points to no score at the end of the first quarter.
Aided (somewhat) by the diagonal wind, Kilmeena added 4 more points to their tally in the second quarter. For Louisburgh, it was proving a difficult evening; for although they did create a few chances, they failed to convert. Their efforts were continuously thwarted by a combination of Milo McManus - who was having a great game for Kilmeena at half-back -and Brian Durkan; who’s blocking and fetching nullified Louisburgh’s attack. The Kilmeena defensive effort, including subs Rory Nolan and Sean Gallagher can be very satisfied with their evenings work.
Colin Hastings came on in the third quarter and bagged Kilmeena’s first goal. This was followed shortly afterwards by a goal from Ben Lennon. At the other end, Louisburgh’s efforts were finally rewarded with a point.
The final quarter saw Ciaran Kilcoyne rattle the net for Kilmeena’s third goal.
In the end, this was another facile victory for Kilmeena.

The Under 12 coaches & management look forward to seeing the boys continue their sporting progress through the Under 11 and Under 13 grades in the coming months.
Well done to all the lads for their efforts and commitment over the past 4 months.

Match report: Michael O'Grady.

Final Score:              Kilmeena    3 - 8       0  -  1    Louisburgh
