u16 Boys Kilmeena v Burrishoole

Created: 24 April 2017 | Print | Email

Friday 21st April 2017 - Round 5 u-16 League
Final Score: Kilmeena 3-13 v Burrishoole 0-07

Kilmeena continued their fine league form with a good win over neighbours Burrishoole in Newport on Friday evening last. Kilmeena started brightly with 4 points without reply. Burrishoole responded with 2 well taken points, but an Iain Murphy goal on 20mins put Kilmeena into a lead they never surrendered. Kilmeena pushed on with 1-02 (Chris Mc Nally goal) before the break to leave a half time score of 2-06 to 0-04.
Both teams traded points early in the second half but the game ended as a contest when the impressive Chris Mc Nally scored his second goal on 18mins. This was an all round impressive performance from Kilmeena.
Team: Adam Sheridan, Chris Mc Glynn, Brian Mortimer, Tom Smyth, Simon Duffy, Ronan O’ Donnell (Fahy), Niall Mullin, Jack Carney, Mickey Hastings, Mark Hastings, Cian Moore, Iain Murphy, Jason Mc Glynn, Chris Mc Nally, Sean Costello.

U16 Boys Kilmeena v Balla

Created: 24 April 2017 | Print | Email
Final Score: Kilmeena 5-08 Balla 2-09
With the new scoreboard finally making its debut to the delight of all present, Kilmeena got back to winning ways, with a hard fought win over a physical Balla side at home on Tuesday 18th April. The home side lined out without a number of regulars and had to draft in u14’s Oisin Grimley & Sean Prenty who both stepped up to the mark on the day. The home side dominated possession for most of the first half but due to wasteful shooting the score at half time could have been more than 4-1 to 1-7 with goals from Simon Duffy, Chris Mc Nally & Cian Moore.
In the second half Kilmeena were much more clinical in front of the posts and hit 7 points (4 from Jack Carney) without reply. A Simon Duffy goal on 18mins killed the game as a contest. The home defence of Brian Mortimer, Tom Smyth, Oisin Grimley, Ronan O’ Donnell (Fahy) & Niall Mullin were excellent throughout and limited their opponents to 1-02, the goal coming in the final minute of the game. Kilmeena can now look forward to their local derby match with their neighbours Burrishoole on Friday next.
Team: Jason Mc Glynn, Brian Mortimer, Tom Smyth, Oisin Grimley, Ronan O’ Donnell (Fahy), Niall Mullin, Jack Carney, Mickey Hastings, Sean Prenty, Cian Moore, Luke Garavan, Chris Mc Nally, Simon Duffy. Subs: Gerard Gibbons, Cathal Cawley, Liam Moore, Evan O’ Donnell, Jack Mulchrone.

Tourmakeady v Kilmeena, Senior League, Div 1D

Created: 18 April 2017 | Print | Email

Tourmakeady 0-14   Kilmeena  2-8

Kilmeena travelled to tourmakeady on saturday evening for a tough assignment against the hosts in Tourmakeady, and came away with a very creditable draw.
The game started off at a rattling pace with both teams exchanging early scores. Kilmeena was struggling to cope with Tourmakeadys movement while at the other end Kilmeena were keeping the host defence busy. Tourmakeady edged in front, but were hit with a defensive lapse and Darragh keavney pounced to score an opportunist goal. As half time approached, Kilmeena stretched their lead to a 3 point lead at the break.

After the break the hosts threw everything at Kilmeena and within minutes were level with some quick scores. To their credit, the Kilmeena lads steadied the ship and fought their way back into the game, and with the clock running down, Darragh Keavney pounced again to put away a fine goal. The home teams pressure paid off with two late scores, and at the end either team had their chances to win the game. However, a draw was probably the right result between two very evenly matched teams.

This was a tough very physical battle, but the kilmmena lads acquitted themselves well, and it speaks volumes for their durability at hanging in there when the game seemed to be ebbing away from them. They have made a fine start to the League and will be seeking to push on in the coming games to establish themselves as one of the clubs challenging for league honours.

Best for Kilmeena Niall Duffy, Liam Heanue, Darragh Keavney
Kilmeena scorers  Darragh keavney 2-1 (1f), Paul Groden 0-2, Ryan Feehan 0-2 (1f), Liam Heanue 0-1, John Reilly 0-1, Chris Heanue 0-1

Kilmeena v Killala Senior League, Division 1D

Created: 10 April 2017 | Print | Email

Kilmeena 0-14  Killala  1-8

On a blustery afternoon on Sunday last Kilmeena hosted killala in the first league match of the season. There has been little between these teams over the past few years, and this time Kilmeena edged a tough and at times tetchy encounter.

The home lads started well, and playing with the breeze had edged 3 points clear in the first quarter. Adding on another brace going into the second quarter it was looking good, but then kilmeena lost their way slightly by getting involved in a niggly battle with their opponents. At half time, we turned around with a four point lead.

In the second half Kilmeena started very well, and in spite of turning around into a stiff breeze they kept a 5 point margin between them and the visitors. In this period a fine save from keeper Sean McGreal kept killala at bay and with the game coming to a close the Kilmeena lads seemed to be finishing stronger by pushing the margin out to 6. The visitors were getting desperate with some wild shooting, but their efforts brought a last minute penalty goal which was a mere consolation on the day.

This was a very good team performance and best for Kilmeena were Neil Duffy, Seanie McGreal, and Niall Ryan.

Scorers R Feehan 0-4(2f), D keavney 0-3, C Heanue 0-1, N Feehan 0-1, C Madden 0-1, S Staunton 0-1, N Ryan 0-1, P Groden 0-1, A Ryan 0-1
