Kilmeena minors welcomed Hollymount/Carramore to St Brendan park on the 27th of June 2017. This was a must win game for Kilmeena if we were to progress to the semi finals. The lads did not disappoint and tore into the South mayo lads and posted 4 - 10 in the first half to 2 - 04 for Hollymount. Hollymount/ Carramore to their credit gave their all and gave an exhibition of high fielding. But when Kilmeena moved the ball at pace and were direct they are brilliant. This was a good win for Kilmeena and thrilled the large crowd on a lovely evening in the parish. I heard one over excited dad say "it was total football".
Thank you to all who supported and we are looking forward to seeing you all in Ballintubber on Friday evening 30th of June.

Kilmeena hosted Ballycastle on Sunday last knowing that a win would be a huge boost to our promotion hopes.
The game started with Kilmeena playing with the aid of a stiff breeze. However, it was the visitors who settled quickest, and set the early pace. Scores were proving hard to come by, with Ballycastle missing a few opportunities. The Kilmeena performance was not good at all in the first quarter only posting one point in the first quarter. Indeed the score read 0 - 2 to 0 - 1 after 20 mins but then Kilmeena suddenly got to grips with the game and rattled in 2 - 1 before the break with well taken goals by Sean Ryder and Darragh Keaveney.
Half time Kilmeena 2 - 2 Ballycastle 0 - 2
After the break Kilmeena started well for the first few minutes, but then lost their way as Ballycastle playing with the breeze now, turned the screw. The men from the northern shore were in the ascendancy as they whittled away the Kilmeena lead with a goal and three points. But Kilmeena came back to go ahead again only to be pegged back with two Ballycastle points.
At this stage of the game John Reilly, Alan Ryan and John Ryan were introduced and all three had a positive impact to turn the game back Kilmeena's way.
With the game well into the final quarter, Kilmeena were struggling to stem the red and black tide, but then a fine move with a speculative Joey Smyth effort ended up in the top corner of the net.
This was a mortal blow to the Ballycastle men and despite a few opportunities late on they couldn't make any inroads into the Kilmeena lead.
At the full time whistle the Kilmeena men were certainly relieved to get away with the victory. This was not a good performance, but the resilience in digging out a win certainly augurs well for the rest of the campaign.
We return to the top of the table and move on awaiting Kilfian in two weeks time.
Best for kilmeena were Chris Heanue, Joey Smyth, and John Reilly
Scorers: Joey Smyth 1-2, Darragh Keaveney 1-1(1f), Sean Ryder 1-0, Conor Madden 0-1, Keith Joyce 0-1
The "Birthday Boy" Declan Ryan, with team managers Mickey Feeney and John Doherty.

For the first time in the history of St Brendan's N.S. Myna, the team of lads representing their school, teachers and the community, were crowned Cumann na mBunscol County Champions for 2017. Serving up a feast of football that would do justice to any team their senior, they recovered in great style from a half-time deficit of 8 points to take the title. Playing into a strong wind in the first half, against a determined Bekan side, the half-time deficit of 8 points seemed insurmountable. Led by team captain Darragh Slattery, they tackled this shortfall in the second half with a coolness and focus that did justice to their excellent win to the delight of the home support.
Well done to all involved.

The First round of the u12 Summer league was played at home on Monday evening against Carras (an Amalgamation or Garrymore and Kilmaine). We had a strong squad of 27 players togged out.
Kilmeena layed down a marker in the first quarter by controlling the play and went in at the end of the first quarter leading by 0 - 4 to 0 - 1. While the second quarter was a more even affair in terms of play, but Kilmeena took their chances better in front of goal and lead by 2 - 5 to 0 - 3 at the midway point. We maintained our strength through the remainder of the game winning the last two quarters also. Given the warm evening and a number of injuries throughout the game and it was great to have such strength on the sidelines to bring in. All subs got a run and contributed to a great result. Defensively and midfield were very strong throughout, but we are going to make an extra effort in training in coming weeks to convert a higher percentage of chances in front of goal. Final Score on an enjoyable evening of Summer Football
