Kilmeena V The Neale U16 Girls League

Created: 04 July 2017 | Print | Email

The Kilmeena U16 Girls travelled to play The Neale last evening Monday the 3rd of July.
The Captain for this game was Jamie Geraghty, as it was a very wet evening it made playing conditions very difficult but in fairness to both teams it an entertaining Division 4 game. The home side started the better taking well executed scores, but the kilmeena Girls dug deep with notable performances by Ciara Joyce, Shannon Burke, Sandra McDonald, Mollie Moore who created lots of scoring opportunities which made life difficult for the home team full back line.
Kilmeena finished the first half a goal up, but the The Neale were not going to give up easily and started the second half brighty, but Kilmeena got to grips with their surging runs with strong defending by Chloe McGing, Dearbhla Grealis, Holly Barrett, Aiva Ryder, Laura Moore resulting in the home team been kept at bay by limiting their scoring opportunities. But at the other end of the field Kilmeena were finding their rhythm with Anna Moran & Laura Kelly making good runs which allowed kilmeena forwards to take some excellent assuring we finished out the game strongly, as its often said “Goals win games” and that proved to be the case this evening, well done to both teams who had to make the best of the wet conditions, thank you the Neale for a sporting game.

Kilmeena V Ardnaree U14 Boys C C/Ship Semi-Final

Created: 03 July 2017 | Print | Email

Kilmeena travelled to Swinford, to take on North Mayo opposition, Ardnaree in this U14C Championship semi-final.
From the first to the final whistle, this was a game played at a high tempo – with both teams getting stuck in!!
Kilmeena pointed and netted in equal measure during the first 30 minutes. The four Kilmeena goals came from the boots of Jamie Staunton, Jack Mulchrone and Finley Gibbons (2). Ardnaree also netted on three occasions during this period and pointed on six occasions; to give a half time scoreline and one point advantage to Kilmeena of 4 – 4 to 3–6.
Kilmeena began the second half with intent and two fine points from Chris McGlynn stretched Kilmeena’s lead to 3 points.
Unfortunately, with only 10 minutes or so of the second half played, Kilmeena lost the aforementioned Chris McGlynn through injury. As the second half wore on, Ardnaree pressed their game into the Kilmeena half of the field and they netted three majors in the latter 15 minute period.
To their credit, the Kilmeena lads did not give up. With Evan O’Donnell putting in a great performance in Goal, including saving a penalty (David Clarke look out…) and Darragh Slattery’s well taken free-kick yielding a goal for Kilmeena in the late stages, Kilmeena gave it everything only to fall just short at the final whistle, losing by 2 points.
The panel present this evening comprised of the following:
Ben Lennon (Capt), Harry Sheridan, Cormac Lyons, Jamie Staunton, Finley Gibbons, Adam O’Grady, Colin Hastings, Chris McGlynn, Oisin Grimley, Ciaran Kilcoyne, Cillian O’Grady, Brian Durkan, Evan O’Donnell, Daniel O’Malley, Gavin Mulchrone, Sean Gallagher, Cian O’Brien, Rory Nolan, Lorcan Caody, Jack Walsh, Tadgh Costello, Darragh Slattery, Cormac Feehan.
Well Done Lads...

Kilmeena V Ballintubber Minor League Div 2A

Created: 01 July 2017 | Print | Email

Ray Prendergast memorial park welcomed the Kilmeena minor team for the last game of the league. The game was played on a fine evening in front of a large crowd. The game started at  a 100 miles an hour with both teams scoring well. Sean Moore was on form kicking some great frees. It was also great to see Robbie Harper back in the black and white. The score at half time was Kilmeena 1 - 13 Ballintubber 2 - 05. The Kilmeena lads knew they were in a game as both attacks were on tops as there was plenty space for the inside forwards. The second half started as the first and Ballintubber were having the best of the early exchanges. Kilmeena kept their noses in front and a couple of good saves from Ciaran Costello kept Kilmeena in the game. All of a sudden we found ourselves a point down with minutes left on the clock. But substitute Simon Duffy scored a goal and a point late on and eased the nerves.
No doubt the Kilmeena lads dug deep and learned a lot about themselves tonight. I am sure it was a great game to watch for the neutral but not if you are the manager!!
Final score kilmeena 3.21 ballintubber 4.13
Kilmeena are now in a semi final against  Burrishoole in St Brendans park. Date to be announced.
