Club Registrations 2015
You cannot play official matches, challenge games or train with any Kilmeena team, at any age level, unless you are registered with the club and, therefore, authorised to play by the GAA.
You are not insured to play and any injury sustained by an unregistered player will not be covered by the GAA player injury fund.
Playing unregistered players also leaves the club open to sanction and exposed, both financially and morally, should any litigation ensue following an injury.
Anyone who has not yet registered please contact any club officer and do so immediately. Those of you who are not registered will not be allowed to train or play unless you do so.
From a Kilmeena prospective, this game is best summed as ‘Poor Start – Great Finish’.Crossmolina dominated the first quarter, playing some good football - they moved the ball quickly, with accurate passing and interplay. In this period, Crossmolina posted 2-2, whilst at the other end Kilmeena failed to register any score for their efforts.
In the second period, following some player and positional changes, Kilmeena rallied and kept pace with Crossmolina; each team managing to post 1-2 in this quarter. Crossmolina shaded the third quarter, scoring 1-2 to Kilmeena’s 1-1.In the fourth quarter, it was ‘do or die’. So, with a few more positional changes the Kilmeena lads gave it everything and their efforts yielded goals from Ben Lennon, Finley Gibbons and Sean Prenty – 5 in total in the final twelve minute spell, to give Kilmeena a deserved win and one which looked very unlikely in the first quarter.
Kilmeena and Crossmolina each fielded a second team in a 10 a-side match; which was played simultaneously to the match above. Kilmeena also got the better of their opponents in this game.
As always, well done to all players and substitutes, for their great efforts in a Kilmeena jersey. The ‘weather gods’ were also kind to all this evening!!

The “Rás,” or to give it its official title, “An Post Rás,” was the catalyst for the excitement generated on Wednesday afternoon last, as Kilmeena locals lined the route from Westport to Newport, awaiting the arrival of the Rás cyclists as they weaved their way around the roads of Ireland. Flag waving and cheering, they turned out in large numbers to welcome the Peloton as it entered the final leg of the 4th stage of the race from Bearna (Galway) to Newport. This was no ordinary reception accorded to the 140 plus riders of this year's event. For among the Peloton of riders, as it swept through Kilmeena (swept being the operative word) was one of its local natives from Carrowholly, Anthony Murray.
Currently based in Sydney Australia, and riding professionally for some years now, Anthony is a member of the Subaru Albion Cycling Development Team, managed by Frank Conceicao, taking part in this years circuit of Ireland race.
It was most edifying and gratifying to greet this recent emigrant, return as a professional cyclist, to compete again for the second year in this elite race in his native country. And what a proud moment for his family and friends to see him adorned in the colours of his Professional Subaru team.
While riding in a race with his team in Australia, he was unfortunate to have suffered a broken leg sustained in a crash in January of this year. This caused a severe setback to the young riders training schedule, as the eight-week layoff, impacted on his preparations for this years Rás event.
Furthermore, on Tuesday, during the 3rd stage from Tipperary to Bearna, he suffered chest injuries in a crash that hampered his progress in the race. His bike, costing in the region of €10,000 euro, was smashed beyond repair in the incident. (I don’t suppose there would be any point in writing to Santa Claus for a replacement in this case.)
Refusing to let those “minor” impediments hinder his participation in the race, he hopped on a replacement bike, provided by his team, to finish the race in Bearna, and from there to Newport on Wednesday. Others would gladly opt to be nursed and cared for in the comfort of the fireside, given the same set of circumstances.
These characteristics, indicative of the calibre of the man, are the same qualities that he displayed so often on the football fields around Mayo when a member of the Kilmeena and Mayo squad, whose jersey's he wore with such pride.
He is an inspiration to all who know him for his courage, tenacity and commitment to his profession.
We wish him well in all he undertakes in sport in the future.
A true professional indeed.

Congratulations to the Kilmeena under 12 girls, who recorded their second win in Round 7 of the U-12 grading league last night in Breaffy. The final score line read 5-04 to 2-05 in favour of Kilmeena.
It was a great team effort by all 21 girls that produced this result. Breaffy started the stronger winning the first two quarters. However, the Kilmeena girls never gave up and played their best football in the third quarter scoring 3 goals and 2 points. Ciara Joyce put in a superb Captains performance, leading her team from start to finish. Mollie Keane helped tighten up the Kilmeena defence when introduced in the third quarter while Megan Mulchrone made a welcome return after being out injured for a number of weeks.
