As promised, the Orange status weather warning issued by Met Éireann earlier in the day, vented its full fury across the Connacht Centre of Excellence grounds in Ballinhaunis, the venue for the County U21 Championships Semi-Finals held last night. Yet, this fierce tempest did little to curb the spirit and enthusiasm of the footballers of Kilmeena and Kilmaine as they served up a sterling feast of football skills and some super score taking, to the approval of the sizable crowd of supporters of both teams. While both sides had their respective periods of dominance, Kilmeena finally edged ahead in the finals minutes of the second half to win by a single point.
Kilmeena now plays Ardnaree Sarsfields, the winners of the other semi-final of the division, next weekend at the same venue, time to be arranged.

On Saturday next at 3.00pm, in the Breaffy GAA Clubrooms, Kilmeena will compete in the Scór na nÓg competition following an absence of some years from the event. The foursome involved, Róisín Hogan Tin Whistle and Low Whistle, Muireann Cawley Banjo, Ben Lennon Fiddle and John Ryan Jr. Piano Accordion, have been in practice over an extended period of time under the tutelage of John Ryan Sr. (of Daniel O'Donnell and Ray Lynam and the Hillbillies fame) and Dr. Brian Lennon (well known to Radio listeners and TV viewers for his traditional music skills). In appreciation for their hard work and commitment in preparation for the event, we would appeal to supporters traveling to the U21 County Semi-Final in Ballyhaunis (Kilmeena V Kilmaine at 5.00pm.
