Kilmeena U13 girls travelled to Westport this morning to play their final game of the league. A very strong Westport side dominated from the throw in. Dearbhla Feehan had the honour of captaining the Kilmeena team today. Kilmeena had some good individual performances from Aoife Gibbons in goal, Abby McGreal, Ciara Gill and Holly Barrett in defence while Ciara Joyce showed some great individual pieces of skill and determination up front. Despite constant pressure from the Westport forwards Kilmeena’s defence never gave up. Their efforts were rewarded towards the end of the first half where a clearance out of defence brought the Kilmeena forwards into action and after several passes the youngest player on the pitch Aisling Hoban sent the ball into the back of the Westport net. 22 girls played for Kilmeena today. Well done to all involved and congratulations to Westport on their well deserved win.

This panel of 32 registered players started training in March. We started with "Go - Games" in May, fielding two teams against Achill, Islandeady, Burrishoole, Louisburgh, Westport St Patrick's, Tourmakeady and Castlebar Mitchels.
We fielded two teams in the Paddy Golden Blitz, with one team winning the Shield in the B final and the other team narrowly loosing the C final to Westport. In the Burrishoole Blitz, the lads went one better with both Kilmeena teams winning Cups. In the Tourmakeady Blitz, we entered one team and once again our boys won the Cup. In the Balla Blitz, we narrowly lost the semi-final to Moy Davitts, the team that went on to win the final.
We also had a skills test at the start and end of the season with all players showing big improvements levels.
The future looks bright for KILMEENA GAA with these lads coming through.

Earlier this year, Kilmeena GAA club applied for funding to the Sports Capital Programme, to assist our club development plans.
The successful applicants were announced today and Kilmeena GAA was successful in securing €80,000 in funding from this programme.
This is great news for the club and will assist greatly with getting the necessary work done, although more funding, and therefore fundraising, will be needed to complete our development needs.
Many thanks to Chairman Willie Keaveney and to Damian Hughes on their work in putting together a successful application and securing this large amount of funding.
Kilmeena U18's advance to the County Final with a fine win over Islandeady in the divisional Semi-Final played in St Brendan's park Kilmeena on Saturday.

This game was played in perfect weather conditions – dry with little or no breeze.
Kilmeena were first on the scoreboard; with Chris McNally bagging a goal in the opening minutes of the first half. After this, Belmullet found their rhythm and dominated for much of the remainder of the half; registering 1 – 05 by the short whistle. Kilmeena did manage to raise another green flag during this period.
Although not playing their best football, Kilmeena were only 2 points adrift at the half time whistle; 1-05 to 2-00.
The Kilmeena lads did up their game at the beginning of the second period. They started to win more ball and press Belmullet harder and they reaped some reward for their efforts. However, Kilmeena were finding it difficult to convert their efforts into points on the scoreboard.
Belmullet managed to keep their noses in front throughout the second period and had three points to spare at the final whistle. In fairness, Belmullet took more of their chances and were deserved winners of this competitive match.
Good luck to Belmullet in the final; where they face Ballintubber.
Well done to all the lads in the Kilmeena Under 13 squad. In getting to this Semi-Final, this bunch of young men won all their group qualifying games. There is no doubt but that they will feature strongly in the Under 14 competition in 2016.
